August Championship Entry

For August the theme was "Superhero Vacation Photos." This was actually a bit of a challenge for me since a) I rarely draw superheros, and b) I can't think of the last time that I drew humor.

Inspiration struck on the golf course one day, and since I can only imagine the frustrations Wolverine would have while playing golf with Spider-man... well, this is what I came up with. I'm actually really surprised and happy with how easy a time I had with it, and I'm glad I thought to use Wolverine's uniform colors on his golf outfit.

The Marquis

Guy Davis is one of my favorite comic book artists. His work on BPRD combined with colors from Dave Stewart has probably influenced me more than any other artist/art team that I can think of, while going a long way towards helping me develop my own style. The Marquis is Davis' creator-owned character - an Inquisition-era demon hunter in an alternate history France.

I was involved in a Marquis draw-off with another poster at PencilJack, and I came up with the following piece. I like it, but I wish that I'd had a bit more time...

July Championship Entry

I took a few months off from the Championship Series due to a general lack of ideas and time, but I jumped back into it for July. The theme was "Intergalactic Battle" and I decided to attempt my first fully digital painting. It was fun and frustrating, and I learned that I could do it, despite the fact that it took way longer than any other piece I think I've ever done...

100 Artists Project

Wow, it's been awhile since I updated, but I've got a bunch of stuff to show - starting with this... One of the members over at PencilJack has started a 100 Artists Project. The basic idea is that 100 different artists submit a piece of art. These will be bound into a book and auctioned off to benefit two comic book oriented charities. The book will also be reprinted and sold to benefit those same charities. There are actually two stages to the project. This is the first - the second is a sketchbook that is being mailed around the globe for artists to sketch in and mail on to the next artist in line. The end result will also be auctioned off.

If you'd like to find out more or if you'd like to participate, head on over to www.100artistsproject.com for more details.
